Benzocaine condoms are a relatively recent innovation that have brought quick relief from premature ejaculation to millions of men around the world. What are they and how do they work? What are their advantages and disadvantages? What are the alternatives?
What Are Benzocaine Condoms
Benzocaine condoms are also known as climax control condoms. They are regular latex condoms but there is a small amount of numbing gel located in the tip (or teat). This is made from benzocaine, a well-known medical-grade anesthetic.
When the condom is rolled on, the heat from your penis melts the gel and the anesthetic becomes absorbed in the tip of your glans. The active ingredient starts to work very quickly.
All the big condom manufacturers make these now, including the “big two”, Durex and Trojan. Their products are respectively called the Performa/Performax and the Extended Pleasure.
How Do They Work?
All anesthetics, benzocaine included, work by cutting off a portion of the nerve signals that travel to your brain. Benzocaine in the amounts used in these condoms is very mild and so you feel only a slight loss of sensation (touch, sexual pleasure and heat) and in return you get a few extra minutes in the bedroom.
The advantage of this product is that you can get it anywhere and it barely costs any more than regular condoms. It is also relatively discreet although you should not count on it not being discovered by your partner as the gel is clearly visible in the tip.
Mind you, just because you use these condoms is not any particular admission that you have a premature ejaculation problem. These are mass market condoms available everywhere so your use of them is unlikely to raise too many eyebrows these days.
Compared to other techniques to delay ejaculation, these condoms do not introduce any extra hassle if you were planning on using condoms anyway.
These condoms only give a slight performance increase. For men with severe premature ejaculation, they are unlikely to make a huge change in the sexual experience.
Obviously, those men who hate using condoms are not going to like using these products. They result in an even greater loss of sensitivity compared to going “bareback” i.e. without a condom. They are also going to introduce a possibly unwanted interruption to the sexual act.
Also, as they are only temporary fixes, this means that they only mask the symptoms of your problem and do not actually fix the underlying cause of premature ejaculation.
There are other alternative anesthetic products if you find that these condoms do not give you enough extra time in the bedroom. These allow you to get a stronger dose of anesthetic but you should remember that this comes at the cost of your sensations. The most common is lidocaine spray and the most well-known brand is Stud 100.
Better than most products is a natural training program. Although sometimes delivered one to one, it is more commonly obtained as a self-help guide. Via a series of exercises, you can train yourself to become more confident and at ease with having sex with a woman and to eliminate all fears and anxieties connected to the sexual act which are ultimately the cause of premature ejaculation. The end result is being able to have sex for as long as 20 to 30 minutes before ejaculating and it is not uncommon for guys to be able to go for much longer than this.
And unlike anesthetics or other methods and techniques, training/therapy results in permanent change to your way of thinking in the bedroom. Therefore, the results are permanent and you no longer have any reliance on special tricks, techniques, tools or any other kind of external assistance.
